Program Curriculum

Six focused, online lessons covering the competencies required for safe wound recognition and escalation in communtiy-based care settings.

1. Skin structure and causes of breakdown

Early recognition, fragile skin, and prevention with a do-no-harm approach.

2. Identify and differentiate common wound types

Pressure injuries, diabetic wounds, and lower-extremity ulcers at a recognition level.

3. Consistent, basic wound assessment

Observation, measurement, periwound evaluation, and reassessment using objective descriptions.

4. Recognize signs of infection

Understanding when escalation is required and how to communicate concerns clearly

5. Scope-appropriate, protective interventions

Reducing risk, preventing further injury, and supporting a safe, do-no-harm approach. 

6. Document and communicate findings

Proper escalation practices and documentation for continuity of care.

Checkpoints & Final Test

Each lesson in the program contains 2 review questions, and the program is completed after passing the Final Test.

The Final Test consists of 18 questions. A passing score of 70% or higher is required. Learners may retake the Final Test as many times as needed to achieve a passing score.

This self-paced online program consists of six focused modules and is typically completed in approximately 10 hours.

Participants who complete the program and the final evaluation receive a certificate of completion and a digital micro-credential badge recognizing foundational competency in wound recognition, assessment, documentation, and escalation.
